To understand the media-soaked world in which we live, we must take time to understand and analyze the messages we receive, and think about why they were sent.

Cyber Portaits

Digital Footprint

"On the Internet a digital footprint is the word used to describe the trail, traces or "footprints" that people leave online. This is information transmitted online, such as forum registration, e-mails and attachments, uploading videos or digital images and any other form of transmission of information — all of which leaves traces of personal information about yourself available to others online."

Everyone has a virtually cyber portrait and mine is a positive one. It is hard to track my cyber footprints and I don’t share any of my personal information or my passwords and I also don’t post mean comments that are intentionally there to hurt people. It is important to have a positive cyber portrait, because it can be dangerous on the net if you don’t. People can follow your cyber footprints and track your IP address to find out where you live. Your cyber portrait can show how you really are. Because parents don’t usually know a lot about the Internet, so many teens have freedom over the net and act as thought they will never get caught. When people find out how dangerous the Internet is, people take steps to protect them selves and personally when I found out how dangerous it was, I used steps to protected my self by editing my Facebook page so that only people I know can come and view my information. A lot of people don’t know that when you type something, it gets stored on the Internet it is permanently on there forever, even if you thought that you deleted it. After finding out about this, I know now not to type anything on the internet that I won’t regret because if I do write something that I’m not proud then one day it might come back to haunt me, like when I’m trying to get a job or trying to get into a college or university they might bring up something that I thought that I deleted of the internet. Once it’s on the internet, it stays there.

  2. A positive online image is important because when people goes to see your profile you want the people to think positive and good things about you. People also judge you on your online photos. If you have bad photos of you online then-too bad, so sad-you'll have a harder time getting into college/getting a job. During class Mrs.Smith gave us time to change our facebook settings so that our page is only available to you if we accept you as a friend. Before I post anything online I would think of the consequences the post might make, and how it would affect me, my friends, and others. After that I should be able to tell if I should post the post I was going to post or not. Before we post anything online we should think of the consequences it can make. If it's a picture of a friend we/you should check with you you friend before posting the image.

It is important to have a positive cyber portrait so people can not stalk you or find out your personal info and bully you over the internet. It is important to have a good online image so people can see if you are going to work good or if you are doing what you are surposed to be doing at your age. I have only made changes to my Facebook profile because it had the most problems and now i feel a lot safer. In the future when i'm posting things I will think about how it can effect me if my teachers or parents see it.

We should be aware that we put online is worldwide; everyone can see it so we should represent ourselves and other people in a positive manner. People should know what type of information they are putting out, it should not be descriptive especially if it is a social network like Facebook because people who seem to be your “friends” will use the information you post against you. This will protect you from dangers of Internet and make you less likely to hurting you and the people around you. Some of the dangers on the internet can really affect your image for example if you are tagged in an inappropriate photo it could affect your college application and the school could possibly not except cause of that one mistake. Your image on the Internet is very important and you have to be aware that people can view your profile if you don’t set it right

What can we do to ensure our Cyber Portrait reflects a positive image of who we are?

The easy answer to this question is … we can’t. The closest we can get to reflecting a positive image is probably not posting any wild photos, or videos and no bad comments that can affect you or that insult another person. We do not do this because it can affect us while we are trying to apply for a job or when you want other people to approach you, they will see that you have a bad Facebook page. Every time we log on to a social networking site, we are under risk of being attacked, or abused by an online predator. The only things we can do to reflect a good image of ourselves is never get onto sites that could be a danger to us.

  6. In order to ensure our Cyber Portrait reflects a positive of who we are you’ll have to think about safety. One way is the images you post online because whatever image you upload on to your Cyber Portrait it might reflect the kind of person you are to everyone and its important because when everyone looks at your profile they will probably look at your images and whether you’re a good person or a bad person. Second way you can ensure that you can have a positive image on your Cyber Portrait is to check your settings and only share to people you know because some information you post might not be safe for other viewers and that could lead in to big problems most probably cyber bullying. The final way to ensure that your Cyber Portrait reflects a positive image of who you are is wants you write something on your profile think about what your posting and think about positive comment that won’t lead to mean comments before posting it online. If you understand the use of the Internet you’ll probably have a positive image of who you are as a person on the Internet.

  7. We can ensure that our Cyber Portrait reflects a positive image of who we are by being a well-being person. A positive online image is important because it reflects we you will do in the future. You will have a harder time if you have bad photos of you, like drinking, because its not positive and companies would not want a person with bad pictures to be in the company because its going to ruin the image of your personality.

A few ways to ensure safety and privacy on the Internet are pictures that are appropriate and doesn’t show private info. Delete all information that can be used to track you or anyone you know. Get a trusted adult who knows a lot about internet safety to check your status on the internet. Post information that have nothing to do with secrets. Show pictures of friends doing appropriate things and only if they approve and allow it. Don’t go sharing information with strangers and only chat with people you are certain that they are who they are. Be sure to think logically. Think about your posts before posting. Don’t spend all day on the internet, have some sunshine.

  9. Jun: To make a Cyber Portrait reflect a positive image of who I am; the profile image and the way you post comments or bios is very important. When you post a picture online it reflects you and if it’s not appropriate they might think you’re different person. The bio reflects you because of the way of how you post things and what you are interested in. People might think differently based on what they read. It works the same way on how you comment on other people’s posts. Comments that you put on other people’s picture might hurt them and they might think you’re mean if you post something bad. That changes how people think of you. Before posting a video or picture, think, because it might effect how the viewers think about you. Think about how you act and how you dress and how you do things. In conclusion before doing anything like posting comments or uploading - think of how it reflects your personality and why.

  10. There are not many ways we can ensure that our cyber portrait reflects a good image of who we are, because there are so many ways that other people can get information about you and post it online, like putting up photos of you that you do not want to be put up. There are simple ways of preventing this, such as adjusting your privacy settings so that your friends cannot tag you, or, if your friends are reasonably honest, just by asking them not to. Some other ways of making sure that your cyber portrait reflects who you are is by simply asking your self, “would I say /put up that if I were talking in person?” Because what you do in private and in front of a computer screen reflects who you really are. Also, make sure you do not put any photos or comments up that could be used against you, not just with cyber bullying, but with universities or jobs that want to know if you can get in or not. They can look at your cyber portrait as a last resort to decide. So you need to watch out for what you put on your cyber portrait, because any one can see. Just remember to ask yourself if it is appropriate for anyone to see, and make sure that they do not reveal anything you do not want to reveal.

To ensure our Cyber Portrait reflects a positive image of who we are, we have to be cautious of what we are doing and what we are sharing on the Internet. Although we feel that the Internet is this big free world where we can be whoever we want to be, we still need to show positive images and information about ourselves on the Internet. Even though the Internet isn’t a safe place to post information, there are ways that we can still post information but insure that not everyone on the Internet will see our personal information. What you do on the Internet reflects on who you are so it might help you if think differently before posting any information because what you post can reveal information about you. I have changed all my privacy settings on my Facebook account to let only me view and my friends view to insure my safety. And I will always think before I post anything on the internet.

  12. Jonas It is extremely important to display our cyber profile positively instead of displaying negative images of our selves. Whatever you post online reflects on yourself, colleges take advantage of this and check your virtual profile. So it is important to make sure that we display our selfs in a positive mannor by monitoring what we post and making sure that what we post would be ok to show our virtual conscience.

Anyone can see what you post on the Internet. Your cyber portrait is an
online representation of who you are and what your opinion is. If you post
inappropriate things online, they will reflect who you and eventually come back
to you. You can’t ever be completely safe online, but you can change your privacy
settings to keep you as safe as possible. You can also manage what you say online
to keep you safe. If you post personal information and locations, anyone can find
you and harm you. You should think before you post online, that, anyone and
everyone can see your posts or pictures. Whatever you put online isn’t yours
anymore and can never be deleted. Even if you delete your comment, it has
already been recorded and will stay so forever. Future employers might look at
pictures and posts to decide on a job candidate. Inappropriate pictures and posts
might hurt the candidate’s reputation. Whatever you post online can help or hurt
    your future.

  15. To influence and show the people, that you are a positive person, you need to show your writing or image as clear as you can.
When you write or make your profile in online, you need to show good picture and writing as best as you can. Because, bad comment or image can influence that, you are a not good person.

If your online image is not good, people can imagine that, you are not a person. For example, if someone have bad influence when you meet them first time, you can think that, he/ she is not proper or modernized person.

In the cyber world, you are only showing the parts that you tell them. Therefore, if you publish pictures of flower, some people can think you like the flower very much. However, if you publish bad pictures, such as gun or photo that include blood, they can imagine that you are not having proper ideas.

I have changed my profile in Korean website call Naver. The way I changed my blog is that, I included some pictures that shows the food, and people commented that ‘do you like to eat?’ or ‘it seems like tasty’

  16. What can we do to ensure our Cyber Portrait reflects a positive image of who we are?

These days are brand new days, we are very connected to the network. To not forget our memorial life, we upload pictures on the facebook or blogs where everyone can view them. Some of the people won't show up their pictures to others so they share it to only people who they want to show up. However, lots of people these days, put picture of themselves with the background where they've visited. Then they share it ot everyone. This is because for some reason, they want to get fames and they want to show hot they look like to unknown people. For the other reason they share it to everyone is because they have some addictions to hearing people's positive comments on how they look like. These actions causes very dangerous actions from people or it might be YOURSELF if there are negative ways that people describe you. Therefore, here is a way that I did to ensure myself for people to know who am I. I did not put myself with a portrait of myself for the profile picture, I uploaded a bird that respresents peace because I am a person who really wants peace. From now on, I will prefer myself to put my emotions with a pictures that symbolize my emotions.(it will be not a portrait of other people)I realized how dangerous the cyber is... ''Be AWARE''

  17. What are the pitfalls that we need to be aware of regarding gender stereotyping and how can they be avoided?

Many people are being forced in to fit their stereotypes. Just because you see many people with skinny bodies doesn't mean you have to be like that. Advertisers are playing tricks on children and parents so they could shape the child's mind easily. The world is being shaped into a skinny, pretty girl and a strong, handsome boy. Inspiration plays a big role in developing self-confidence, if their is no one to lead the child in the direction they will keep getting lost in the world of media. Not fitting the stereotypes doesn't mean you're abnormal but it's just that you are different, and in this world nobody is the same, not even twins. Nowadays magazines does not promote independence, but it conveys the message that young people should be more concerned with looks, relationships and that they should be fitting into the stereotype to be pretty, famous, and popular.

  18. Why should we be careful while on the internet? How bad could it be if not careful?

Being safe on the Internet plays a big responsibility in my life as I am always on the internet, also because it is helpful in my life. I always try to be safe on the internet by thinking of what my virtual conscience would think, who are my parents. You should be aware of what you do on the internet, because if you post something that is harmful to another person or could get you in trouble it can change your career as colleges, business or schools use to check your background history. That should not be the only thing to be scared of, people who roam the internet find new identities if you post to much information of your self online. So, to make sure none of these examples happen to you, think before you click.

  19. It is important to be careful about what you post on the internet. You always have to make sure you don't post anything too personal on the internet. You can post pictures but they have to be appropriate, you can also post where you come from. However you have to be careful, good advice would be if you keep things like, where you live, your relationship status and your interests blank. People shouldn't be posting this information because, it could lead to cyber bulling and it will be easier for stalkers to know who you are and recognize you. What people post on the internet can be harmful to other people, some people might read a harmful or racist comment about them. What you post on the internet about other people can end friendships or relationships. Be careful about what you post, it can affect you and your friends.

I am a free teen on internet but, I make my self responsible to watch my back, so all my social network sites I make sure that only my friends can see what I am posting on my wall, like this I can be sure that no one can no something they should not no about me because people on internet are able to track you and get some secret information that they shouldn't know because they can use it against my self! If they are not my friends they can't see my picture and personal thinking but they can see my information, I show the country that I am living right know and my home town but I don't give the address of my house or any phone numbers because it's a easy way to track someone and most of the time I lied on my age I give my self 96 years old like this they will never know what age I am. Internet his even more fun when you know that you are safe :)

  21. Nowadays using the internet is usual for among people. However, Some people are having a bad experiences. Which are call the cyber bulling. These are important and serious problem among the cyber spaces because people are getting hurt by commenting bad ways in their pictures or linked bad things in their internet spaces, though there is some ways to ignore the cyber bulling. For example, avoiding the comments or do not put any privacy pictures and do not add friends with the strangers. These will help some people by avoiding from the cyber bullying. Thus, I will not put the privacy pictures in my cyber spaces, do not add friends with strangers and avoid people who are bulling me in the internet world.

We can do many things to ensure our Cyber Portrait reflects a positive image. Such as, as employees, we should keep our facebook and blogs clean and have positive comments and photos. Not posts, comments or photos that will change people's view on you. For example, if you were to post a photo of you out drinking, and you applied for a job, the chances that they would see this photo would be very high. To avoid these situations, you should think through what you post, if it would hurt anyone's feelings, or if it would get you into trouble. As in, when you post photos of yourself online for everyone to see, first think: do I want everyone to see these photos? does it reflect me as a person? and if it is a picture of your friend, you should always ask if they want the photo uploaded or not... Also, be aware with posting where you are, anybody could find these photos, even people you don't know, they could come and track you down. So be aware with what you post! and think twice!

Because, you may think that deleting something will mean its gone forever, but on the internet everything stays, so think before you speak or do, because what stays on the internet, never comes off.....

  24. What can we do to ensure our Cyber Portrait reflects a positive image of who we are?

Nowadays, it is very easy for people to research us and find out about everything we do. With this information, people often form opinions on you and these opinions affect the way they act towards you. In order to ensure that this opinion is a positive one, we must be careful and selective about what we choose to put up on the internet. For example, inappropriate language or pictures posted may project a negative image of yourself. Even what your friends post affects people opinion of you, so it is important to be careful. You should ensure that your post reflect the best of you by making sure you think about the future when debating whether or not to post something. Generally, if there is something you wouldn't want your parents to see, you shouldn't post it because they are able to access it just like an employer would be able to access it. Therefore, the most important thing to remember is to think.

  25. Most of our time nowadays is spent on the internet, facebook, youtube, tumblr, twitter, etc. To ensure that you are looked upon positively on the internet, make sure you post things that are safe, and that say good things about you. Before anyone gets a job, most people have other people check to see if they post inappropriate content or pictures about themselves. If they do and the people at the job see you like that they might reconsider hiring you. I have just updated my Facebook page to make sure it is safe and doesn't hold any bad posts or pictures about me. Don't post anything that your parents wouldn't mind seeing. Your cyber portrait is an online representation of who you are and your opinion.

  26. It is important to keep a good cyber portrait by not doing anything mean or offensive to people. A cyber portrait is supposed to be something that you can show anyone that knows you and they will be able to tell it is you. People’s cyber portraits are supposed to reflect exactly who they are and not who they want to be. To ensure that your cyber portrait reflects who you are you should only put things on the Internet that reflect who you are. I think that my cyber portrait is a positive reflection of who I am because when I am chatting online to someone I speak to that person like I would in real life. The only time I speak to someone different than I do in real life is when I do not know who they are if that is the case then I speak a more wisely so they think I am smart and respect me more. I never give any site my personal information unless it is a trusted site, which I have used before. I always think what my virtual conscience would do in that situation before I act. That is because once I do something online it will never go away.

  27. It is really important to have a positive cyber portrait, and I believe that I have a positive cyber portrait. One of the reasons I believe that I have a positive portrait is that when I’m on a social network site like (facebook or some thing like that) I talk to people how I want to be talked back, or I talk to them as if I was talking to them in person. I’m not someone who would hide behind a computer screen, because I’m not a coward like them. Another thing that makes me have a positive portrait is that I’m conscience to what I put online. Before I post anything I think about who the post may affect, like would it hurt my friends feelings, would it upset my parents? I do the same before I post a picture of myself. Because I am aware of how these things affect myself and others I have a positive cyber profile.

  28. It is very important, to show positive pictures of yourself and not negative, because this can thin your chances, for getting employed. Almost 100% of Candidates will look at your social networks when applying for a job. It is curesull that you keep your profile clean. This means that you must keep apporite pictures of yourself, post apporite comments and videos of yourself. Only post things that you would wants your friends to see, if you think that what you are about to post is not what you would want your friends to see, then you probably wouldn't post it.

  29. These days, technologies are so improved that we can do anything on Internet and Internet gives new information to people and share with others. People upload their pictures mostly with the background they have visited to show their friends to their social network like facebook or blog. But, some people do not upload their picture of their personal information to keep their privacy and show to people who they want to. This people who does not show their personal information are safe from cyber bullying. However, people who share their information can cause dangerous act, which can bring cyber bullying. People can say negative things about you and the word describes you. Thus, I will not put my detailed personal information or my private pictures, to prevent myself from getting cyber-bullying.

  30. Your cyber portrait is utterly important depends on what you upload on your site. No one knows what they are going to do with your account. For an instance if you upload pictures re you drinking or smoking and later you delete it because you think it is improper to share with your friends. Yet it is not fully deleted because someone already takes and saves your photos. To ensure it is security, you have to think before you post something on your statues and not upload improper things.

  32. We should be very careful about what we post on the Internet nowadays as everything is being monitored and used as future reference. Posting thing on the Internet can be dangerous as well as vice versa depending on what you post online. Your cyber portrait is very important and depending on what you post online, it will give you a good or bad image When getting a job, the job interviewer will look at your profile to see the kings of things that you post online. Depending on that, they will decide whether you get the job or not. Posting things on the Internet will also give you a bad or good image. You should be careful about what you put on the Internet because there are online predators who will be able to bully and harm you if you’re not careful. Putting photos of you on facebook and stuff can also lead into a bad ending for you. People can track down and find information about you through pictures and postings.

  33. Our cyber portrait reflects the kind of life we will have. It is important that anything we post does not give a bad image of us. Many people have lost their jobs or have been rejected when applying because of the kind of things they have posted on their profiles. So it is important that we always give a good image of ourselves. What we post online can always be used against us. Posting too much information about ourselves could lead to many problems such as sexual predators, bullies, etc. Even if we delete a photo or a post that we did not like, it will always be there to haunt us because somebody our there would have taken a picture or recorded it down somewhere. So think before you post something on your status because I don’t think anybody would want to be rejected at an interview or be stalked online.
